I’Infâme boule noir

Black IPA  |  Les grands bois  |  Saint-Casimir, QC   |  Reviewed Fall 2018  |   6% ABV

Out of principal, I’ll call this an IBA, since beer can’t be black and pale. That said, it’s pretty typical of the style that was developed in the Pacific Northwest, with bitterness from both roasted malt and hops. This 6% abv ale pours black and opaque, with a tan head that’s easy to rouse. The nose is a mix of coffee and chocolate from the malt and piney west coast hop. The body is medium-full, and bitterness is medium for this style, not over the top. It finishes dry and clean, with some lingering bitterness.
